Daniel chapter 4, verse 6 assures us, “the heavens do rule.” This word is particularly significant now when the world is in the midst of confusion and anxiety. There is comfort in knowing that Christ is still Lord.
Matthew chapter 4, verse 23 says, “And Jesus went around the whole of Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness among the people.” The Lord healed every sickness. No human problem was beyond His reach. The same is true today.
Not only so, He preached the “gospel of the kingdom.” The word gospel means “good news”. Oh, how much we need good news! The good news here concerns the kingdom. But what kingdom? Today we see many “kingdoms”, nations, all struggling, all hindered by the unrighteousness and weakness of men.
The kingdom spoken of [in verse 23] is God’s kingdom in which there is “righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” (Rom. 14:17). It is a kingdom in which Christ is “King of kings and Lord of lords” (Rev. 19:16). As with any kingdom, in the kingdom of God, the King dwells with His people. But in this kingdom, there is righteousness between God and man. This results in peace with God and among people, regardless of background. In such an environment, there is true joy.
The earth is in a time of transition. As said in Psalm 2, the nations are in an uproar, the people are consumed by vanity. But prayers are being answered. For 2,000 years people everywhere have prayed according to the Lord’s word in Matthew 6:9-10: “You then pray in this way: Our Father who is in the heavens, Your name be sanctified; Your kingdom come; Your will be done, as in heaven, so also on earth.” This prayer is being fulfilled.
Soon, there will be the reality of Revelation 11:5b which says, “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ, and He will reign forever and ever.”
It is the heavens that rule, not politicians or generals or illness or turmoil or rebellion. The earth is under the rule of a heavenly administration. The heavens rule for us, and Christ is for us. Because the heavens rule, Christ is with us in all our situations. When we are sick, He is with us. When we are in turmoil, He is with us. We can enjoy His presence in the midst of turmoil and rebellion.
Without Christ, we are those, “having no hope and without God in the world.” (Ephesians 2:12.) But, "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of the heavens" (Matt. 5:3.) To participate in this blessing of the kingdom, the unique requirement is to open to Him. “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:26.) One only needs to pray:
"Lord, I open my heart to you. I ask that you would come to me and live with me and in me. Grant me the faith that I need. Thank you for dying for me. Forgive me for my sins. Lord, thank you that I am now part of your kingdom. Cause me to be one who really loves you. Thank you dear Lord Jesus!"
