At this time of year, people the world over celebrate Christ’s birth. However, the holiday has been swallowed up by materialism and its meaning has largely been forgotten. Hence, there is insufficient consideration of why Christ was born. It is a significant question; why did the Son of God enter into humanity?
Some may say that Christ came to redeem man or to live a sinless human life as a model for others. Both are true. However, this is not the whole story. There is another reason. Christ was born, He entered into humanity, to enable man to enter into God. More simply, He was incarnated to provide the way for us to become children of God.
1 John 3:1 and 2: Behold, what manner of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called the children of God, and we are. Because of this the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. Beloved, now are children of God, and it is not yet manifested what we shall be. We know that, if He is manifested, we will be like him; because we will see Him even as He is.
